Care Of Baby Kittens In The First Few Weeks

A cat is regarded as a kitten from birth to age two years. Even though this entire period is very important for the cat's future health, the initial eight to twelve weeks of the kitten's life are absolutely crucial to their future health. This is when the most important developmental stages of newborn kittens takes place.

During these first eight to twelve weeks, the kitten learns things for example how to eat solid food and how to walk around. If you have got a kitten who has no mother, you may have to train the kitten these things yourself, especially weaning a kitten.

Newborn kittens are some of the cutest pets on Earth-as well as some of the most helpless. Much like humans, kittens require great care during the first stage of their life. Although there are animals which are born up and running, cats are not one of them.

When the kitten is first born, you should leave her care chiefly up to her mother, if the mother is around. The mother naturally knows how to take care of her kittens, and her milk is the best nutrition for a baby kitten. If the mother is not around, then you may feed it kitten formula-never milk.

Up until their second week, they will be literally helpless. In the second week, their eyes start to open-they may still be blind for a bit, but gradually they will begin to be able to see.

During the third to fourth weeks, the kitten's ears will begin to open. They will start to develop their sense of hearing, they also may start to try to walk at this time, but they will be very unsteady on their feet. Also, their teeth will begin to come in as well.

The following couple weeks are the most fun, because that is when kitty starts to play! Make sure to engage kitty in lots of play and let her meet lots of different people so she will get friendly.
