It?s Time for a Big Girl Bed
My wife and I have been debating the idea of moving our youngest daughter Denise out of her cot and into her first real bed. My wife insists that it’s time to take that step and spend the extra quid to get a nice one ‘that she’ll remember,’ while I don’t believe Denise cares what she sleeps in. She’ll still be wide awake at the crack of dawn and I’ll still be barely awake as I take her downstairs to have breakfast, so why bother spending my hard earned money when we don’t need to? If she had her own bed, she would probably be up even earlier and wandering directly into our room, or worse, towards the stairs. Well, you know how kids are; they find a way to force the issue, and this morning Denise settled the argument in dramatic fashion.
It was five minutes after five in the morning, and I heard the first few whinges that Denise typically lets out as she wakes up, followed by an ominous thump. I run into her room, and she’s just starting to wail as she lies on the floor. This was the morning that Denise successfully climbed her way out of the cot. She was fine, just a little bit of a bloody nose, but that still signaled the end of her cot days and the start of my search through the wide selection of Beds to find the right one for her. I decided to drive over to the wholesale warehouse in Sheffield to see what they have to offer, and I could not have picked a worse time or place. First off, I spend the entire drive down there stuck in the middle of a line of lorries, driving well under the speed limit and impossible to get around. And when the lorries weren’t blocking my path, there was an endless parade of road-works designed to frustrate me and keep me from reaching my destination. The trip that should have taken me a quick hour instead stole three and a half hours of my life. And after all of that, the store did not have even one bed to sell. I can tell you that by the time I arrived home I was in quite a foul temper. Thankfully my wife is a mind reader, and she sent me to relax and watch some television while she made some tea and looked for a suitable bed online. She found one and put in an order for the thing. I wish the deliverymen the best of luck making their way here.
